rumour and word has it that Luella Bartley has gone under!
according to sources, one of my fave designers of all time has hung up her needle and thread and decided not to continue designing. now, i'm frightened. I have been a fan of Bartley (anyone who has a collection called, Daddy I want a pony - understands me really well) and this seems to reflect the truely horrible times we live in :
"This is a very disappointing situation for everyone involved with the brand," Bartley said in a statement this morning. "I very much appreciate the support that [Club 21 subsidiary] VSQ has given me, but it is upsetting not to be able to protect jobs in this difficult economic climate. I love the Luella character and hope that after we have survived this challenging time the Luella girl can have an exciting future ahead of her, whichever incarnation she takes on next. We have a number of options open to us, and are considering these over the coming months."

The statement added that due to the unexpected closure last month of the brand's key ready-to-wear producer Carla Carini, spring 2010 orders could not be fulfilled. Luella's turnover is currently in the region of 9 million pounds under Club 21, which also distributes Emporio Armani and Giorgio Armani.the above photos are from the collection that never was...sadly. the S/S10 collection./
