It is a role he and fans know well, and on Tuesday night social media went into overdrive as the first image of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in the latest X-Men film was released.
Despite it only being from the back, the sneak peek was more than enough for X-Men fans.
Director of X-Men: Days Of Future Past, Bryan Singer, tweeted the picture of Hugh from behind as he tried on the 'day clothes' of his character Logan Howlett.
He is back! X-Men: Days Of Future Past director Bryan Singer tweeted the first picture of High Jackman as Wolverine for the latest installment of the series on Tuesday
Bryan tweeted the picture late Tuesday with just the word 'Fitting'.
However, even pictured from behind with the excited crew looking on, there could be no mistaking which of the famous mutants it was.
Wearing his hair teased up into the classic Wolverine bouffant, Hugh donned a tan leather jacket, that's stitching mirrored his winged hairstyle.
Bulk up: Every time the 44-year-old, seen here at the Directors Guild Of America Awards in February, plays the muscle bound mutant he is forced to undergo intensive training to bulk up his normally slender frame
This will be the Australian star's seventh time reprising the role of one of the most popular mutants.
Hugh will also bee seen as Logan this year for a solo spin off based in Japan, The Wolverine, that is in theatres this July.
Director Bryan has certainly done his best to single-handedly create excitement in the X-Men fan community giving the world early glimpses at Patrick Stewart's Professor Xavier, Nicholas Hoult's Beast, Halle Berry's Storm and Shawn Ashmore's Iceman already.
A storm is brewing: The director has also released an early glimpse of Halle Berry as Storm
The professor: Patrick Stewart is once again reprising his role as Professor X
Too cool: Shawn Ashmore is also back on board as the Iceman
This is good, as fans have a long time to wait for the latest installment of the series as it is not due out until July 18 2014.
Having played the mutant so many times Hugh says he does not tire of the character.
Not the first time: Hugh, seen here as Logan in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, has played the mutant seven times but says he does not tire of the character
'And the longer I play the character, the more the desire to get him right grows. The more I speak to fans and explore his world, the more it means to me. Look, there’s no question that it’s a great role.
'I didn’t fully understand that when I went in, you know? The pressure now is [much bigger]. I feel I understand why there’s the passion. I understand the character and the legacy and I don’t feel, up until this movie, that we’ve completely lived up to that. So that’s what I intend to do.'
