Apparently we, as beauty goers are fickle creatures!
The sales of beauty products are all up in the fashion news today as we apparently have changed what we buy.
The Daily Mail pointed the finger at Cara Delevingne for causing the decline of sales of tweezers in the past year. According to the newspaper there is a high rise in the number of people googling the model and a decline in the sales of tweezers.
Anyone who works in beauty will tell you that the over plucked Pamela Anderson brow has been over since 2006. It's been all about the tamed brow then the bushy brow for some time now. I have lost count of the amount of people I know who are trying to grow their brows and the amount of MUAs who are sick of being asked for their secrets.
Personally, I got told by an older woman when I was 13 that I should never pluck my brows. She was a friend of my moms and although I don't remember anything else about her. I do know that she gave me that nugget of information in 1998 at the height of the barely there brow trend. She warned me that I would regret it and that they would never grow back properly again. Naturally this put the fear into me and I have still to this day never plucked, tweezed or HD'd my face. Mind you, I have naturally blonde hair and a natural shape to my brows anyway so I just shape them using brow pencils instead. Meh.
Apparently its not just the brow situation but its actually gloss as well. As buyers we are responsible for a decline in the sale of lip glosses too.
Who do we blame for that!? Rihanna!??!
There has been a 2% decrease in sales of lip gloss since 2010 to 2012. Which is not a huge amount. However lipstick sales shot up by 15% during that same period. Although the sales of lipgloss compared to nail varnish from 2012 to 2013 tell a much bigger difference. We all know that nail art took off massively in the past few months so its no surprise that gloss clocked in at $178 million in sales compared to $768 nail varnish sales.
There are some reasons that gloss has been on the decline but my main theories are that
1) gloss is disgustingly sticky and I have long hair
2) It comes off everywhere
3) It reminds me of being a teenager
4) I can't get it in bright enough colors
5) Lipstick comes in brighter more stay put shades and they now have them in every shade possible.
End of.
