Matchbox Swat Vehicles

So a trend in the last few years of economic downturn has been bragging about how much money you saved. As evidenced by my recent Matchbox Oshkosh post, I'm not immune.

Last year Matchbox gave us this Swat vehicle. This vehicle is based on the Ghurka LAPV.

Matchbox vehicles are of a scale referred to as "fit to box", but the larger sized vehicles (pretty much everything but passenger cars) are useful in 15mm. Now a lot of bloggers have made good use of this vehicle, but it requires an entire repaint.

The 2013 version however looks like this. Very useful, with nice markings so you don't have to repaint the whole thing, just get rid of the garish toylike aspects.

So I drilled the bottom out and primed the wheels and base and the orange insert. I painted the wheels German Grey and the orange insert Model Master French Blue. I put it back together and painted a few details and hit it with some Matt Spray. I painted the rear door white to match the side doors. I imagine it is useful at night to have the doors painted white.

Nothing special, but very servicable and cheap. Useful for Modern and Near Future SWAT or Anime ESWAT teams.

When I was a kid, nothing was cooler than this.

When I was in the Hospital with an infection in the 3rd grade I had a hard time staying up late to watch TV with the other kids in my room. They convinced me to try and stay awake to watch S.W.A.T. (which I think was on at 9pm). I remember watching the intro and then waking up the following morning. I had fallen asleep during the opening commercial break! I was pretty disapointed, but man that opening was one of the coolest things my 8 year old brain had ever seen. It almost made up for missing Evel Knievel jump the Snake River Canyon a few nights earlier.

I have to say though watching it now that Steve Coleman looks like a total goof, flinging his AR-15 over his head as he jumps. And then there is the stupid side to side look...
